Celebrating Four Decades of Transformation in Paper & Packaging

Founded in Vienna in 1986, Polo has spent 40 years connecting international manufacturers with customers across Central and Eastern Europe. Today, we are building on this heritage to strengthen our position as a 360° solutions partner for the paper and packaging industry, bringing together materials, machinery, technical expertise and service to create new possibilities for our customers.

Four decades in the paper and packaging industry have taught us one important lesson: lasting success depends on the ability to evolve.

From paper trading to an international network

When Polo was founded in 1986, it initially focused on sales and marketing for the paper groups Mayr-Melnhof and Frantschach, serving emerging Asian markets. Over the years, we have continuously expanded our portfolio and partnerships, moving beyond paper and board into specialty materials, packaging machinery, labelling and related technologies.

Our international network, local market knowledge and long-standing relationships remain among our greatest strengths. They allow us to understand our customer needs and connect them with the right products, technologies and expertise.

From products to integrated solutions

The packaging industry is changing rapidly. Sustainability, automation, production efficiency and material innovation are reshaping customer requirements. We see these developments as an opportunity to expand our role beyond supplying individual products.

A major milestone in this journey was the introduction of greenline in 2024, our initiative to simplify the transition towards more sustainable, paper-based packaging. By combining sustainable materials, packaging machinery, technical expertise, service and co-packing possibilities, we help our customers turn sustainability ambitions into practical solutions.

We strive to bring materials, machinery and know-how together, helping our customers find solutions that meet their technical, operational and commercial requirements.

Building our next chapter

Today, we are focused on broadening our portfolio, developing new partnerships and making better use of our experience and expertise. Our established presence across Central and Eastern Europe provides a strong foundation for this next phase of growth.

We are also exploring how artificial intelligence can help us work smarter. From identifying new market opportunities and potential customers to improving customer preparation and sharing technical knowledge across our organization, we see AI as a valuable tool for increasing efficiency and giving our people more time to focus on relationships, communication and business development.

Looking ahead: the next 10 years

The past four decades have shaped who we are: an international partner with strong regional expertise, a broadening portfolio and an entrepreneurial approach to business.

As we look towards the future, we will continue to build on these foundations, embracing technology, exploring new opportunities and expanding into specialized market segments. We see the challenges facing the European paper and packaging industry as reasons to innovate, rethink established approaches and develop new partnerships.

Our goal is to turn these opportunities into meaningful progress for our customers and partners and to continue shaping the future of paper and packaging together.
